Germany’s Lufthansa eyes defense sector

In a recent article published in dw.com, #aviation #expert Grossbongardt shed light on Germany’s #strategic choice for maintaining modified Boeing 737 aircraft, originally designed for civilian use. These #commercial #planes, now outfitted with #military #systems, are being #serviced by Lufthansa Technik, a move Grossbongardt deems practical given the company’s extensive experience with Boeing 737 maintenance.

He explained that the decision to involve Lufthansa Technik in the process came early on, as the company was already engaged in maintaining and outfitting government aircraft. The Bundeswehr’s involvement in this partnership, according to Grossbongardt, is both cost-effective and efficient. Building #maintenance capabilities from scratch would have required significant #investments in infrastructure and #spare #parts, leading to much higher costs for Germany’s #military.
